Last Month’s Dance Report

Take 41 ultimately compatible friends, mix them with a profoundly capable caterer, throw in an evening’s worth of elegant, danceable music and; Brother, you’ve got yourself a formula for a magnificent New Year’s Eve soiree’!  We had that and then some at our celebration on Tuesday last to see the old year gone and the new one welcomed in!  Well, we didn’t quite stay until midnight, but we had as much fun as if we had!  We always struggle to find the appropriate words to express our gratitude to our members and attendees for their support of our club throughout the year.  I reckon that a sincere “Thank You” probably goes a long way to achieving that end if I also add that we consider you all to be a part of our family, and that means you are appreciated more than you know. Thank you all and we hope to see you plenty in 2020!  Agnes, don’t kid me now, but did he intend to make that rhyme?

As we expected, our new caterers from the Barnwood Grill conjured up a resplendent dinner for our enjoyment.  Under the guidance of owner, Patricia Yokeum, she, Janet, and Steve rolled out a menu of goodies which would satisfy any palette!  There was ample fuel there to provide enough dancing energy for two celebrations!  My oh my, from the butterfly shrimp which flew off the serving table, to the beef and chicken with all of those delicious sides, to the finale’ of desserts; it was a gastronomic delight to behold!  There was plenty leftover for anyone who desired to help themselves to some takeout for the Rose Parade on Wednesday!  Our grateful thanks to the folks of the Barnwood Grill for their efforts on our behalf!

Special Thanks! to Chris Hanak for taking over the hosting duties for the evening.  Isn’t it amazing to be around people who see what needs to be done, so they just do it?  Chris to a tee!  Thank you Chris, you are a special person!

During the break Dennis recognized the dedicated effort put into our evening’s preparations by June Kickham.  June took over her position earlier in the year, and she hit the ground running! There was never any question if our new Activities Chair would need some warm-up time. Bravo June!  We are so happy you are here!  Dennis also thanked all of the board members and individual volunteers who provide desserts (or other food items) and those who help set up the dance venue and then take it down at the end of the evening.  You all are significant to our success as a club, and we want you to know that we all know how important you are to us.  Thank you all for all you do!

Dennis also reminded us of our annual meeting/ dance on January 25th.  Remember that this is when we are required by our bylaws to conduct Board elections and appoint Committee Chairs. With the retirement of our Secretary, Chris Sabo, and External Affairs Chair Sam Hammond, it is now your opportunity to step forward and help out by volunteering!  Fortunately, Jack DeVroomen has volunteered for the External Affairs Chair (Thanks Jack!) so we are seeking someone to be our new Secretary.  Responsibilities are light; around 4 meetings a year, keep notes and publish the minutes, and participate in necessary Board decisions.  Not a lot of your time is required.  Somebody? Please?

A dancer from each table won the decorative centerpiece at that table as their door prize for the evening.  Congratulations to you all!  Note that those centerpieces were designed, procured, and assembled by June.  Thanks again June!

Please note that the club has a Facebook page and we would appreciate it if you would like, and share posts for us.  Thanks!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time. Here it is for this month:

Last Month’s Dance Report

Started the year off correctly, didn’t we?  There were 49 avid dancers who came through the door to a fun evening, even if it did include those stodgy old elections!  How very fortunate we are that Bill Harris and Jack DeVroomen stepped up to fill the positions vacated by our good friends Chris S. and Sam.  You all constantly renew my faith in people!  What a good crowd you all are!

Special Thanks! to Cheryl and Bob Carlisle for managing the hosting table for the evening.  When your evening starts off with smiles and greetings from these two fine folks, you know it’s going to be a good one!  Thanks to you both for helping out and being such good friends!

Food kudos to June, Dennis, Debbie, Chris S., Jana, Linda, Vickie, and Gwen for supplying us with that delicious pork tenderloin buffet replete with all those sumptuous fixin’s, and a round of most delectable desserts to finish it off!  You all know just a little something ‘bout cooking!  Ain’t we glad!

Forever Thanks! To Patricia and Jack de Vroomen for their donation of flower bulbs for our door prizes! You two are really special!

Thanks also to Dennis for teaching another quality step in the Waltz, which we all enjoyed, and then providing the music for the evening!  You are a busy guy Dennis, and we thank you!

During the break Dennis reminded us of our next dance on 02/22 and Rob’s dance on 02/01.  The USA dance will be on 02/08 at Grace Hall. There will also be a Clemson Valentine’s Day dance on 02/15 at a cost of $5/person in the Palmetto Ballroom of the Student Union Bldg.

Dennis conducted the annual business meeting/elections.  Dennis automatically moves from Vice-President to President.  Dave Thomas and Chris Hanak were elected to their respective offices as Vice-President and Treasurer.  Chris Hanak provided the annual Treasurers Report for member perusal.  Sincere Thanks to our newly elected Secretary, Bill Harris, who steps up to fill the shoes of Chris Sabo, and Jack de Vroomen who takes over from Sam Hammond as External Activities Chair.  A very hearty “Welcome to the Board” to you both!

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to both Chris and Sam for their dedication to the success of our club, and for all those years of service to make it happen!  You two are real treasures!

The flower bulbs were won by Pat Mouzayck and Ann West, and the gift card by Doug Greene.  Congratulations to you all!

Please note that the club has a Facebook page and we would appreciate it if you would like, and share posts for us.  Thanks!

Last Month’s Dance Report

Once in a while it is nice to have a cozy group of 37 dancers attending as we had last week.  A really friendly crowd who managed not to bump into each other on the dance floor!  Bravo!  It is always an enjoyable evening when you are with your fellow dancers, isn’t it?  Once more, next month?

Special Thanks! to Jana and Ken Price for deftly taking care of the hosting table for the evening.  First, they bring super desserts, and then they volunteer to help with the “work”; what’s not to like about these folks!  Thanks you two – we are so happy to have you as members and friends!

Food and set-up kudos to June and Tom, Dennis and Debbie, Chris S., Chris H., Jana, Mariea, and Vickie for all their efforts in providing and setting up another delicious buffet for the rest of us to enjoy!  We are all beholding to you folks, and I just want you to know that I will come to dinner at your house any time!  Seriously, we really do appreciate all you do for us.  Thanks, BIG TIME!

Forever Thanks! To Patricia and Jack de Vroomen for their donation of flower bulbs for our door prizes! You two set the standard for generosity!

Thanks to Dennis for teaching an interesting step in the Rumba, and also providing the dance music for the evening!  The man has endless energy!  Thanks Dennis!
