Last Month’s Dance Report

Happy New Year everyone!  Here’s hoping that 2019 will bring us all some peace, prosperity, and good health!  Here, Here!

The number of people who signed up for our Holiday Gala dance was 41, and that is the exact number who attended.  Chef Abdul presented us with a tasteful variety of appetizers, followed by a delicious main course buffet of beef, chicken, and fish.  That, of course, was followed by a table of magnificent desserts, which kept pulling me like a huge magnet!  Bravo to Chef Abdul and his assistants for a wonderful evening of dining to celebrate the Holidays!  Double Bravo to our Elaine for managing the ordering and supervision of the entire evening’s fare, including procuring the beautiful centerpieces!  Great job Elaine!

Thanks to Dennis for providing the very danceable music for this special evening.  Thanks Dennis!

Special Thanks! to Jeannie and Tommy Barnwell for handling the hosting duties for the evening.  Dependable club supporters, and two fine folks to greet everyone as they came in the door.  It doesn’t get any better!  Thanks you two for being great friends to us all!

During the break, Dennis made a point of thanking all those folks who make these dances so very successful.  This number includes reliable supporters Patricia and Jack DeVroomen, all our Board members and significant others, and of course those of you who come early and stay late to help set up and take down. Thank you all very much from all the membership!

Dennis also noted that our January dance on the 26th is also our Annual Meeting where Board members are nominated and elected for the coming year.  Volunteers are solicited.  He also reminded us of Rob’s dance on 1/5, and of the change in dates for the USADance to Friday evenings (vice Saturday) with the next dance on 1/18.

Guess what?  Annual dues are now due, PLEASE!

Please note that the club has a Facebook page and we would appreciate it if you would like, and share posts for us.  Thanks!

Congratulations to all of you who won the centerpiece from your table.  Enjoy!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time. Here it is for this month:

The first time I got a universal remote control, I thought to myself, “This changes everything.”

Last Month’s Dance Report

Nice way to start the new year with 48 of you showing up for the dance and our annual meeting! Good to see you all there!

Special Thanks! to Mariea and Richard Kautter for providing their personal talents to the hosting table this time! Friendly and efficient and you don’t get any better than those two! Thanks to you both for being such great supporters of our club!

Thanks to Dennis, Debbie, Chris Sabo, Ken and Jana, and Vickie for providing the delicious Barbeque buffet with all the fixin’s, plus dessert to get us all stoked up with energy for the dance! You all do a wonderful job keeping the rest of us satisfied with our food dishes and we want you to know we appreciate it mightily!

Thanks to Jack DeVroomen for his donation of flower bulbs for a door prize this evening! Thanks for your dedication to our club Jack!

Dennis provided a very cool Swing lesson which was very popular as you can see by the pictures of the participants. Thanks Dennis!

During the break we conducted our annual meeting and election of officers for 2019. Dennis opened the meeting by explaining that the new President automatically moves into the position from the Vice-President’s role and that we will essentially be voting on three positions; Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The only nominees were the people currently in those positions. The other two officers are appointed by the board, to wit, Chairman of External Affairs, and Chairman of Activities. Sam has agreed to continue as External Affairs, but unfortunately, Elaine is stepping down from her position as Activities Chair. Dennis, and all of us, thank Elaine for all of her years of devotion to this task. There were lots of happy times with Elaine in this position, and she was unflagging in her will to get the job done right, to the great benefit of us all. Thank you Elaine!!!

A motion was made from the floor, and seconded, that the entire slate of officers be elected as nominated. This was passed unanimously by voice vote. Dennis also presented a brief overview of the club financial report and made note that there was a copy of our current financial status on each table. He stated that the club was in good financial condition.

Obviously, the club is urging one of our members to step forward to be appointed to the Chair of the Activities Committee. YOU, yes YOU can keep this from being a painful exercise. Please step up now! Contact Dennis or Dave for details.

In additional business from the floor, Jack DeVroomen suggested that the board consider promoting “special” dances such as Valentine’s Day, and Halloween. He also urged the members to get more involved in promoting the club on our Facebook page. A motion was made and seconded to close the business meeting, and it was approved by voice vote.

Dennis noted that our next dance is on February 23rd, that Rob’s dance is on February 2nd, and the USA Dance is on Friday, February 15th.

Guess what?  Annual dues are now due, PLEASE!

Please note that the club has a Facebook page and we would appreciate it if you would like, and share posts for us.  Thanks!

Congratulations to Vickie for winning the flower bulbs, and Mariea for winning the gift card! Enjoy!

Last Month’s Dance Report

How about those 41 pairs of dancing feet flowing deftly around the dance floor at the last affair? This is so much fun, I can’t remember what I did before there was ballroom dancing! You too, huh? See you next month!

Special Thanks! to good friends and club supporters Vickie and Paul Kroeger for their friendly handling of the hosting table this time around. Did I mention that Vickie bakes a mean dessert also? Thank you both very much for all you do for us!

Thanks to Dennis, Debbie, Jana, Vickie Kroeger, and Vicki Ellison for their efforts in providing us with another delicious barbeque buffet. I can tell you from vast experience with my waistline that we are not shy in the “good-cook” department. I mean, just plain, down-home goodness! Anyone for seconds? And dessert, knock me down! Thanks to you all!

Thanks to Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donation of “Jack’s Giant” elephant ear bulbs for door prizes this month! Easy to plant, and beautiful to look at – it must be a DeVroomen product!

Dennis provided a very noteworthy lesson in the Foxtrot and once again the dancing music for the evening. Thank you Dennis! I owe you one!

During the break some announcements were made and the next dances were noted as found in the Out and About section of this newsletter.

We continue to urge (plead for) one of our members to step forward to be appointed to the Chair of the Activities Committee. YOU, yes YOU can keep this from being a painful exercise. Please step up now! Contact Dennis or Dave for details.

Now, did you note all of those 47 happy faces at our dance on Saturday last?  Wasn’t that a great turnout for no other reason than to have a good time with your friends.  A little dancing thrown in there doesn’t hurt, does it?  We also note that we acquired 6 new members, plus we were pleased to see some of the students from Dennis’ Clemson dance class.  I think everyone had a sparkling good time – double for me.

Special Thanks! to Mary and Bill Harris for doing a superb job managing the hosting table and seeing that all those 47 people received the fine greetings we know come from good folks like you two!  Thank you for volunteering your time to help the club!  All of us appreciate your efforts on our behalf!

Thanks to Dennis, Debbie, Jana, and Vickie Kroeger for obtaining and preparing that popular meat-ball buffet. The greens and fruit always add a nice touch to an already delicious layout. You all are really talented in the food department and you know we all love it!  Thanks also to Lou for providing the flower centerpieces to add to our ambience, and to Ruthann and Chris Hanak for their help in setting it all up. Thanks to all of you who always stay to help take it all down when the dance ends.  You are appreciated!

Continuing Special Thanks! To Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donations of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  You two are just wonderful friends and all of us are pleased to know you!

Dennis (and Debbie) demonstrated a very nice sway step in the Foxtrot for us all to learn and add to our routine.  Gosh, is there a step he doesn’t know?  Thanks Dennis!  Oh yes, and Dennis provided all of that danceable music for the evening too!  Double Thanks!

During the break Chris Hanak announced that she had moved and that dancers need to take note of her new address and phone number.  Dennis announced that our next dance is 05/25, that Rob’s dance will be on 05/04, and the USA Dance will be on 05/17 (note that the dances are now on Friday vice Saturday).

We continue to urge (plead for) one of our members to step forward to be appointed to the Chair of the Activities Committee. YOU, yes YOU can keep this from being a painful exercise. Please step up now! Contact Dennis or Dave for details.

Lou Rainey and Anne Briggs won the flower bulbs, and Caryn Lance won the gift card.  Congratulations to you all, and enjoy!

Guess what?  Annual dues are now due, PLEASE!

Please note that the club has a Facebook page and we would appreciate it if you would like, and share posts for us.  Thanks!

Last Month’s Dance Report

Every once-in-a-while I have to stop and remind myself how very fortunate I am to be a part of this club and have so many nice friends.  You all are just fantastic!  That includes the 36 of you who came out on Saturday last to satisfy your need for Terpsichorean delights! It was a good one, wasn’t it?  Let’s do that again next month!

Special Thanks! to June and Tom Kickham for taking over the management of the hosting table this session.  These two fine folks could put a smile on Grumpy Cat with no effort whatsoever!  Now, if we can just convince Tom to stay out of June’s money changing……Thanks you two for your support to the club!  We all really appreciate it!

Thanks to Dennis, Debbie, Ruthann, Ken and Jana, and Vickie Kroeger for obtaining and preparing a scrumptious Bar-B-Q buffet. There was plenty to eat, it was particularly flavorful and tasty, and if you didn’t get your fill you need to follow me around the table!  How did we assemble all these fine cooks under one roof?  You are all appreciated!

Continuing Special Thanks! to Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donations of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  There are only a limited number of ways to say thank you for their unwavering support, so this time in Dutch, Dank je wel!

Thanks also to all you helpers who get it set up, and then taken back down at the end of the evening.  You are special people!

Dennis (and Debbie) taught a smooth step in the Rumba (a favorite dance!) and it looked to me that most of you had it mastered.  Great!  Thanks Dennis!  Oh yes, and Dennis provided all of that danceable music for the evening too!  Double Thanks!  Again!

During the break at Bill Allgood’s suggestion, we observed a moment of silence in honor of our fallen soldiers.  Dennis announced that our next dance is 06/22, that Rob’s dance will be on 06/01, and the USA Dance will be on 06/21 (note that the dances are now on Friday vice Saturday).

We continue to urge (plead for) one of our members to step forward to be appointed to the Chair of the Activities Committee. YOU, yes YOU can keep this from being a painful exercise. Please step up now! Contact Dennis or Dave for details.

Mariea Kautter and Joe Gavalda won the flower bulbs, and Lorri Wright won the gift card.  Congratulations to you all, and enjoy!

Last Month’s Dance Report

Here’s to joyous jubilation, magnificent merriment, robust revelry, extreme elation, and continuous cheering!!!  What the heck is going on?  June Kickham has volunteered to fill the long empty position of Activities Chairwoman! Hurrah June!!  The Board is now complete and we all Thank You very much!!!

Well!  With that significant news delivered, let me tell you that in addition to having 35 wonderful dancers at our June soiree, none other than our long-time friends Shirley and Jim Votaw came waltzing through the door!  We all think you guys ought to plan a trip up here from Georgia every couple of months!  What say?

All 35 of you made a wonderful group to be a part of and we thank our lucky stars to be a small piece of such a friendly collection of dancers!  Shall we all get together and do that again next month?!

Special Thanks! to Lorri and Clint Wright for handling the duties of the hosting table with such grace and aplomb!  Two of our newest members, they fit right in like the wonderful folks they are – if you haven’t met, make it a point to introduce yourself at the next dance!  You’ll make yourself two new friends!  Thanks you two!

Continuing Special Thanks! to Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donations of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  I don’t know where you would find more generous and caring folks than these two!

Thanks to Dennis, Debbie, Ruthann, Jana, and Vickie Kroeger for gathering and presenting that perfectly plump hot dog buffet.  It was a bit early for the 4th of July, but my stomach didn’t think so!  Woo-ie, how about that potato salad!  Two kinds, and both were scarfolicious!  Thank you all so very much!

Thanks also to all you helpers who get it set up, and then taken back down at the end of the evening.  You are special people!

Dennis (and Debbie) taught a classy step in the Foxtrot called the corkscrew, easy to do, and looks fantastic.  In order to remember this one I just think of an unopened bottle of wine! Thanks Dennis and Debbie!

During the break Dennis announced that June Kickham had volunteered to assume the duties of Activities Chair.  Applause!  He also reminded us of Rob’s dance on the 6th of July and the USA Dance on the 20th.

There were several enquiries regarding Sam’s health.  Following is a response directly from Sam on 6/23:

Thank you all for missing Chris and me at our monthly dances and for your prayers for my speedy recovery. The enemy was large B cell lymphoma. It showed up in a CAT scan of my tonsils and my left abdomen. Dr. Doster in Anderson is my oncologist. He recommended six chemotherapy treatments three weeks apart. After my fourth treatment I had a CT scan that revealed my cancer was gone. Dr. Doster recommended that I complete the remaining two treatments as a surety. My next treatment is Wednesday the 26th. My last treatment will be July 17. At that time he will perform a PET scan after which I should be in remission. I appreciate everyone’s prayerful concern and look forward to having fun with you all on the dance floor. God bless each one of you.

Elaine Fullbright and Lorri Wright won the flower bulbs, and Bill Harris won the gift card.  Congratulations to you all, and enjoy!

Guess what?  Annual dues are now due, PLEASE!

Last Month’s Dance Report

How you gonna keep em down on the farm after they been to our dance?  You’re not!  There were 49 of you who proved that last Saturday and showed us once again how to have a good time with your friends.  Wow!  You all are just the greatest!

Before we get started – REMINDER - !!!  Chris Hanak will not be here for the September dance, but in her place the Kautters have volunteered to perform her duties for the dance.  SO    you must notify Mariea or Richard of your intention to attend the dance, and send your dance fee to their address.  Their information is provided very conveniently to the left of this column.  Thanks for your cooperation, and thanks to the Kautters for their help!

Special Thanks! to Cheryl and Bob Carlisle for deftly handling the hosting table this dance!  Cheryl and Bob are the definition of grace and kindness and we are proud to have them as our friends and members of the club!!  Bravo you two!!

Continuing Special Thanks! to Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donations of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  When Jack explained the background for the naming of these particular bulbs, he really got my attention when he said “naked ladies!”  Well heck, that’s what I want in my yard!  Thanks you guys!

Thanks to Dennis, Debbie, Chris Sabo, Jana, Ruthann, Vickie K., Vicki E., Yvonne, and Roy and Betty for procuring, preparing, and organizing that scrumptious chicken and mashed potato buffet!  Fresh green salad, fruit, and jello on the side made it all fit together and taste sooooo good!  Follow that with one of the many varieties of your desserts and I don’t know how I managed to get onto the dance floor!  You all are the WOW crowd!!

Thanks also to all you helpers who get it set up, and then taken back down at the end of the evening.  You are special people!

Dennis (and Debbie) taught a step in the Rumba which was a little tough for me.  I got the step, it’s just making that spin turn at the end that makes it interesting!  Great looking step and we thank you both for teaching it!

During the break Dennis reminded us of Rob’s dance on the 7th of September and the USA Dance on the 14th.  Don’t forget our next dance on the 28th!

Vickie Kroeger and Diane Thompson won the flower bulbs, and Beth Bennett won the gift card.  Congratulations to you all, and enjoy!

Please note that the club has a Facebook page and we would appreciate it if you would like, and share posts for us.  Thanks!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time. Here it is for this month:

A cowboy asked me if I could help him round up 18 cows.  I said “Yes, of course, that’s 20 cows.”

Last Month’s Dance Report

If you weren’t there last Saturday, you missed some rollicking good fun and fantastic dancing presented by 46 of your best friends!  I don’t know about you, but I believe one night with this crowd bests a month of anything else!  I just can’t hardly wait for the 19th to roll around    You too?  See you at the dance!

Before we get started – REMINDER - !!!  Chris Hanak will be back and resuming her normal duties as our treasurer.  Our huge thanks to Mariea and Richard Kautter for handling her affairs while she was off galivanting around Europe!  You two are the greatest!  Welcome back Chris!

Special Thanks! to Margaret and Eugene Dickert for volunteering their time to manage the hosting table this month!  Most of us have to work at charming sincerity, but these two fine folks have it in abundance!  Thank you both for being such good friends!

Continuing Special Thanks! to Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donations of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  Patricia was off plying her thespian skills (to the delight of the audience I might add!) while Jack chose to bring the “naked ladies” to our dance.  Well done to both, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jack, and BRAVO Patricia!

Thanks to Dennis, June, Chris Sabo, Ruthann, Vickie K., and Jack for procuring, preparing, cooking, and presenting a varied and remarkably delicious meatball and noodle buffet!  This was all lo-cal so you could just eat all you wanted!  In fact, I heard someone say there were negative calories in there too!!!  Thanks a whole bunch to you all, and also to Tom for stirring the pot!

Thanks also to all you helpers who get it set up, and then taken back down at the end of the evening.  You are special people!

Dennis (with Mariea’s help) taught a classy step in the Waltz known as the “hesitation.”  I hope you all enjoyed it and will add it to your routine – it really looks smooth!  Thanks Dennis, and thank you also for providing the danceable music for our evening’s enjoyment!

During the break Dennis reminded us of Rob’s dance on the 5th of October and the USA Dance on the 12th.  Don’t forget our next dance on the 19th!

Last Month’s Dance Report

I have a large degree of empathy for those folks who have never experienced the joy of ballroom dancing for I walked in those shoes for a lot of years.  If we could just let them look into an event like our dance last Saturday we wouldn’t be able to contain the enthusiasm!  This was clearly evident by the fun-loving activities of 53 of you at our last dance!  Wooooeeeee!  What a crowd!    I hope you all show up in November to do it all again!

Special Thanks! to Vickie and Paul Kroeger for applying their considerable cordial talents to managing the hosting table this month.  Friendly is not nearly a big enough word to describe these two great folks who we prize to be members of our club.  Thank you both for being such solid supporters of our club and good friends to boot!

Continuing Special Thanks! to Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donations of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  Happy to see you both back at the dance at the same time!

Thanks to Dennis, June, Chris H., Chris S., Ruthann, Vickie K., Jana, and Linda F. for their efforts in presenting us with a fine Bar-B-Q buffet with all the fixings, plus all of those “I can’t help myself” desserts!  A lot of fine talent and much work always goes into this preparation and we all want you all to know that we notice, and we truly appreciate what you do for us every month!  We thank you each and every one!

Thanks also to all you helpers who get it set up, and then taken back down at the end of the evening.  You are special people!

Dennis (with Chris Hanak’s help) taught a “chair” step in the Waltz which is a different look, but a smooth addition to your dance routine.  We all enjoyed it Dennis.  Thanks to you and Chris!

During the break Dennis reminded us of Rob’s dance on the 2nd of November and the USA Dance on the 9th.  Don’t forget our next dance on the 23rd!

Just a note to let you all know that we are working on our end of year Gala catered Dinner/Dance.  Just as soon as we have finalized the plans, you will know.

Ruthann and Bethanie Terro won the flower bulbs, and Max Craighead won the gift card.  Congratulations to you all, and enjoy!

Last Month’s Dance Report

Again we exceeded the previous dance in numbers of attendees!  There were 54 of you who came out at the urging of your muse, Terpsichore, to enjoy some time on the dance floor and just have fun with your friends!  Remember! – We do this every month, so don’t miss out!  See the details for our New Year’s Eve Gala catered dinner/dance later in this newsletter.  I know where I’ll be; I hope you will join me with all of your dancing friends!

Special Thanks! to Vicki and Roger Ellison for taking over the hosting duties for this dance.  You just knew you were going to have fun when you came in to be greeted by these two gracious folks!  Thanks you two for starting the evening off with your smiles; we really do appreciate it!

Continuing Special Thanks! to Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donations of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  Lots of years of club support from a pair who care!  Thanks from all of us!

Thanks to Dennis, Debbie, Chris H., Chris S., and Jana for their efforts in putting together another tasty meal for our buffet table!  You know it’s good when you see that line of hungry dancers digging in!  Thanks to all of you for keeping us healthy and energized!

Thanks also to all you helpers who get it set up, and then taken back down at the end of the evening.  You are special people!

Dennis (with Debbie’s help) taught a beautiful step in the Bolero – all the steps in the Bolero are beautiful!  It was a treat and we thank you Dennis; and we thank you also for providing the smooth music for our evenings dancing!

During the break Dennis reminded us of Rob’s dance on the 7th of December and the USA Dance on the 14th.  Don’t forget our next dance on the 31st!

Speaking of that, our year-end Gala will actually be on New Year’s Eve this year!  That is, Tuesday, December 31st beginning at 6PM, with events as follows:

6PM to 6:45PM – hors d’oeuvres/appetizers
6:45PM to 7:45PM – Dinner
7:45PM to 10PM – Dancing

There will be a short break in the dancing to give away door prizes (one per table) and make announcements.  We will be ending at 10PM as has been our practice for the last several years.

The dinner buffet will be freshly prepared on-site, and the menu looks like this:

Hors d’ oeuvres
Butterfly Shrimp w/drizzled White Wine Butter Sauce
Hot Crab w/a Twist Collard and Spinach Dip, served w/Toast Points
The Barnwood Cheeseslaw infused w/Pineapple and Jalapenos, served w/Crackers
Dinner
Spinach Salad w/Apple, Sliced Mushrooms, Cashews, and Red Onions, served w/Vinaigrette
Oven Baked Mushrooms and Onions in Aujus
¼ Rosemary/Garlic Roasted Chicken (Breast&Wing), cooked over Chopped Onions, Celery, Carrots, and roasting flavoring
Peppercorn encrusted Beef Tenderloin cooked Medium Rare
Red Potatoes served w/Parsley/Garlic Butter Sauce
Baby Glazed Carrots in Dill and Butter
Green Beans
Yeast Rolls w/Butter
2 Fruit Juice Punches/Tea
Desserts
You’re gonna love them!

The price will remain unchanged from the last two years!  This is pretty remarkable considering that the cost has gone up considerably in that time, but our very astute Treasurer aided by your frugal Board members (this is a Scroogey bunch!) have managed to sustain a surplus which will now be used for our dancer’s benefit!  As it should be!

The cost is $35/per person – Member, and $45/per person – Nonmember.
You must be signed up, AND, paid in advance not later than close of business on Monday, December 9th.  Please understand that our hands are tied with this; we must have an accurate count of attendees and advance money in hand in order to proceed on that date.  Sorry – no exceptions.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The dance on January 25, 2020 is also our mandated annual meeting dance where we nominate and elect board members for the coming year.  This year is somewhat more important than most as we have two board members stepping down from their long-held positions; Chris Sabo (Secretary) and Sam Hammond (External Affairs Committee Chair), treasured members of our team for many years, superb partners in this endeavor we all love, and unflagging workers who will be sorely missed by us all.

The Secretary’s position is an elected slot on the board, and the External Committee Chair is appointed.  Here is what you must do:
For the Secretary slot, make it known that you would like to stand for election to that position so that your name can be placed on the ballot.  For the Committee Chair slot, let any board member know that you wish to be appointed to that position.  It is easy to say, but always very, very hard to get up the inertia for people to volunteer.  Why don’t you step forward and help us out?  Details of the responsibilities of both positions are in the “Bylaws” section of our website.  This is not rocket science folks!

END IMPORTANT NOTICE

Elaine Fullbright and Heather Erickson won the flower bulbs and Amber Conley won the gift card.  Congratulations to you all; and enjoy!

Please note that the club has a Facebook page and we would appreciate it if you would like, and share posts for us.  Thanks!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time. Here it is for this month:

My dentist told me that I need a crown.
I replied,” Finally!”  “Someone who understands me!”

Our web site address is: www.gcbdc.com

This is our standard reminder of the Dues and Fees required by the By-Laws.  Annual Membership Dues are $10.00 per person per year. Your membership expires in December and the dues are never pro-rated. Club Member Dance Fees are $12.00 per person and Non-Member Dance Fees are $14.00 per person. All Dance Fees are due 1 week prior to the dance. It is most important that Dance Fees be paid on time so that we can accurately judge the amount of food and drink to purchase for the dance. Please do your best to help us out with this one. Thanks!
