Last Month’s Dance Report

Fuggedaboutit! Slap your Granny! Honky Tonk Badonkadonk! If you didn’t make it to the New Year’s Eve end of year blast, you missed the very best time, EVER! Chef George and his able assistant Aprile laid out a freshly cooked meal fit for the Kings and Queens we are! All I can think of to say is, WOW! Start making plans now to be there this year-end so you too can partake in this once-a-year delight.

Special Thanks! to Jeannie and Tommy Barnwell for handling the hosting duties with welcoming style and friendly finesse! It is always more fun with you two around!  Thanks very much to you both!

Special thanks to Chef George Tenney and his bride Aprile for preparing, presenting, and serving one of the best meals we have ever had! They say the proof is in the tasting, and brother, there was a mighty amount of tasting going on Saturday night! I know I did my share and then some! Delicious!

Dennis provided the evening’s dance music for our enjoyment, and that is exactly what we did!  Thanks Dennis!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone of our annual meeting and election of officers at the next dance on January 28. Volunteer candidates are being accepted for each position except President.

He also reminded everyone that now is the time to pay your 2017 dues of $10/person. Please pay now to avoid getting reminded ad nauseum! We also are starting a new list of Hosts for the dances throughout the year and it would be very kind and helpful if you all would step up and volunteer to do this easy job one month. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations to the winners of the decorative illuminated transparent trees at each of our tables! Enjoy!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time.  Here it is for this month:

I was going to put my usual one-liner joke in here, but a friend of mine sent me the following which I think is very appropriate:

The Train of Life..
At birth we boarded the train met our parents, and we believe they will always travel at our side. However, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone.
As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children, and even the love of our life.
Many will step down and leave a permanent vacuum. Others will go so unnoticed that we don't realize they vacated their seats.
This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells.
Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers, requiring that we give the best of ourselves.
The mystery for everyone is: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down. So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive, and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life.
I wish you a joyful journey on the train of life. Reap success and give lots of love.
More importantly, thank God for the journey.
Lastly, I thank you for being one of the passengers on my train!

                HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Last Month’s Dance Report

Starting year 12 (Whoopee!) and with it our annual meeting dance on Saturday last.  Thirty-eight of you made it to enjoy the music and company, and to participate in the management of your club. Please note that this newsletter reports several changes being made in club operation, so please pay attention!

Special Thanks! to Vickie and Paul Kroeger for deftly handling the hosting duties, and as a matter of fact, for their great support of the club over the past few years!  You two are the greatest and we are really happy you are here! Thanks very much to you both!

Special thanks to Debbie, Dennis, Elaine, Chris S., Vickie, and Ruthann for procuring and laying out another sumptuous buffet to our great culinary delight! Wow – I would come to this dance just for the food! Thank you all very much!

Dennis provided a lesson in the Rumba which was a nice-looking step to add to your routine. An interesting variation which was almost easy to pick up. Thanks Dennis!

Thanks again to super club supporters, Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donation of flower bulb door prizes! How many ways can we say thank you for all you do to support the club? What a pair!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone that we need volunteers for hosting the dance for all months from May through December. Come on folks, it isn’t rocket science! Sign Up! Dennis also alerted us that there may be some conflict with our usual dance dates in September-November, and Clemson home football games. The Board will work this out and provide the dates later.

Dennis then began the Annual Meeting. First up was the announcement that Mariea Kautter had volunteered to temporarily conduct the Treasurers responsibilities in the absence of Chris Hanak. Thank you Mariea!

Dennis then explained the election process, which is that the current VP automatically moves to President, and that the VP, Treasurer, and Secretary positions are then elected each year. The people occupying these elected positions are listed on page one of this newsletter. The three existing committees are External Affairs, Chaired by Sam Hammond; Activities, Chaired by Elaine Fullbright; and Music, Co-Chaired by Dennis and Dave. These are appointed positions and each of the Chairs have agreed to continue in those positions for the coming year.

Dennis discussed our current financial report and status. Through the years, we had accrued a balance of about $2500 to $3000 and had made a decision in the past to draw that down by using it to subsidize club activities costs for the benefit of the members. Notable among these would be the no-cost to members covered dish dances, and a substantial portion of the NYE gala dinner costs. That worked much better than we anticipated and our balance has been reduced to a far too low $828 at year-end 2016. There are other factors at play here such as a drop in our average dance attendance. The bottom line is that Dennis wanted to let the membership know that the Board would be making some changes in order to keep the club financially viable. Any member who desires a copy of the financial report need only request it from any board member.

Following these explanations, Dennis took comments from the membership. It was proposed by Jack DeVroomen that we procure business cards to hand out at other venues to promote our club. Additionally, Jack suggested that we begin a Facebook group for the club which will get our dance club in front of many people who might not otherwise know we exist. He agreed to spearhead this effort. Additionally, Bill Allgood suggested that we let people know that we are always willing to accept cash donations to the club at any time. You all are now on notice that any cash you can spare will be gladly accepted by the club at the Treasurers address on Page one. Sorry, this is NOT tax deductible.

Next, a motion was made and seconded to elect the slate of Officers as presented. The vote “for” was unanimous. The meeting was then concluded.

BOARD MEETING SPECIAL REPORT

The newly elected Board met on Sunday, January 29 at 4PM.

The Board spent considerable time analyzing our spreadsheets in an effort to identify unnecessary costs, and areas where income could be augmented in order to get our annual surplus to a level in the $1000 to $1200 range. This would be sufficient to meet any unexpected cost such as repair or replacement of a failed unit in the sound system, plus give us a reasonable financial buffer.

The Board also discussed the fact that our dues and fees have not changed since we began in 2006. All around us, costs have gone up, but we have thus far held steady.

As a result of this analysis, the Board has made the following changes:
1. Membership dues will increase to $20 per person/year effective January 1, 2018.
2. Dance fees will increase to $12/person members, and to $14/person non-members, effective immediately.
3. The club will no longer conduct covered dish dances.
4. Business cards will be procured to hand out at other venues to promote our club.
5. We will work with Jack DeVroomen to create a club Facebook group to promote the club and our monthly dances.

Please note that the increase in Dance fees goes into effect immediately and will apply to the upcoming February dance and all future dances. Also, note that the Treasurer has changed along with the address to which you send your checks. See page 1 of this newsletter for the correct mailing or email info for the Treasurer. The increase in Membership dues does not affect this year(2017), but goes into effect next year(2018.)

Our average dance attendance for the last three years has been 38 people. The three years prior to that it was in the high 40’s and 50’s. The Board believes that these changes will correctly account for the lower attendance numbers and put us on a more secure financial base. We think you will agree.

Your comments and ideas are always welcomed!

Congratulations to the winners of the flower bulbs, Linda Forrest, and Ruth Whitley; and to Bill Forrest for winning the gift card! Enjoy!

Last Month’s Dance Report

Thirty-nine of us had another one of those just-plain-fun soirees on Saturday!  You know what I mean, the good times when you wish that the people who couldn’t make it there, could have!  Never fear folks, we’re going to do it again next month!

Our first order of business is to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to Mariea Kautter for stepping up and filling the Treasurer’s shoes during Chris’s absence!  Thank you so much Mariea, you are a real trooper!  And, welcome back Chris!

Special Thanks! to Maria and Chris Hanak for managing the hosting duties for the evening. You know when you come through the door and see those two smiling faces that it is going to be a great evening! Thanks very much to you both!

Special thanks to Debbie, Dennis, Elaine, Chris S., Vickie, Margaret, Bethann, and Ruthann for procuring, producing, and presenting a delicious Bar-B-Q buffet!  Everything one could possibly want to eat was on there, and it was scrumptious!  Thanks to the best cooks in the Upstate!

Dennis provided another fine lesson in the Rumba which you can add to your routine. He’ll turn us into real dancers yet!  Thanks Dennis, and thanks for providing the music for the evening!

Thanks again to super club supporters, Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donation of elephant ear bulb door prizes!  And Thanks also to Jack for getting the club Facebook link up and running.  We all really appreciate all you two do to support the club!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone of the changes in club operation made by the Board last month.  The covered dish dances have been suspended, but we are open to having them again if there is enough interest from the members. The monthly Dance Fees were increased by two dollars per person across the board – Members now $12/person and Non-Members $14/person. The annual dues beginning in 2018 were increased to $20/person. Being a member continues to be more monetarily beneficial than being a non-member.  Get those memberships paid for 2017 folks!

Gwen Mochak announced that she has a new pair of 7 1/2 ladies dance shoes available for a small fee.  See Gwen if you are interested.

Congratulations to the winners of the flower bulbs, Becky Lynch, and Margaret Dickert; and to Jack DeVroomen for winning the gift card! Enjoy!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time.  Here it is for this month:

Last Month’s Dance Report

Thirty-eight of the nicest folks you’d ever want to meet came out for the dance last Saturday, and we had our usual blast! The crowd was not too big, and not too small, but it was certainly friendly! Start planning for next month folks, and then you won’t miss out on all the fun.

Special thanks to Debbie, Dennis, Ruthann, Chris S., Linda, Lou, Vickie, and Sue for procuring, producing, cooking, and presenting a varied and healthy Chicken Salad buffet! Lots of green dishes and fruit, plus the ever-present desserts which are always so loooow-cal! Thank you all so very much!

Dennis, our instructor extraordinaire, presented part II of the Rumba step began last month and it is a real beaut’ now that we know the whole thing – I think we know the whole thing- or maybe just some of us know the whole thing- whatever! Even if you only got part I or part II, you got a great step! Thanks Dennis!

Thanks again to well recognized club supporters, Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donation of flower bulb door prizes! We all really appreciate all you two do to support the club!

Special Thanks! to Margaret and Eugene Dickert for performing the hosting duties with diplomatic aplomb. Two cheerful folks who it is always a pleasure to be with. Thank you both very much for your efforts supporting the club!

Special thanks to Debbie, Dennis, Ruthann, Chris S., Sue, Vickie, and Yvonne for procuring, producing, cooking, and presenting a wonderfully delicious Meat Ball buffet. Tasty salad and fruit along with the desserts made it a gastronomic delight. Also, I heard that the mashed potatoes were really good too! Thank you all so very much!

Dennis plied us with a new step in the Bolero which is a true delight. At first glance, it looked quite complicated, but turned out to be much easier, I think! Dennis also supplied the very danceable music for the evening. Thank you a whole lot on both counts Dennis!

Thanks again to super club supporters, Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donation of flower bulb door prizes! Thank you very much you two!

And, Thanks! also to Jeannie and Tommy Barnwell for the basket plant and mystery gift door prizes! We appreciate all you do for our club!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone that our next dance is May 27, and noted that we still need a Host volunteer for that dance – Anyone?

Congratulations to the winners of the flower bulbs, Dean Allen and Linda Forrest; to Chris Sabo for winning the basket plant; to Vickie Kroeger for winning the mystery gift (a box of chocolates), and to Debbie for winning the gift card! Enjoy!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time.  Here it is for this month:

Experience is something you don’t get, until just after you need it!

Last Month’s Dance Report

This month was a double for us! Exactly 44 of you showed up to trip the light fantastic, just the same as last month. What a treat! I had an absolute blast, and I know you all did too – How about we do this again next month! I should note that we enjoyed welcoming the Alabama crowd made up of Hugh Harbin plus seven, good people all and quite the dancers! I also note that our friends from USA Dance in Greenville, Nancy and Mark, and Ellen and Jerry came to join in the fun with us! A hearty welcome to you all – don’t be strangers!

Special Thanks! to Gwen and Rich Mochak for handling the hosting duties this month! It is always a pleasure to start off the evening with a smile and a fine how-do-you-do from two lovely folks like Gwen and Rich! Thank you both for helping out with this monthly “chore!”

Special thanks to Debbie, Dennis, Ruthann, Chris S., Sue, and Vickie, for organizing and presenting that delicious hot dog buffet! I wonder who came up with the idea that you could take a hot dog, smother it in chili and sauerkraut, add mustard and onions and have a complete meal! Yummy stuff, that! Add in the extra salad and fruit, then all those tasty desserts and you find yourself with a plateful of pure magic! Thank you all very much!

Dennis switched away from the Latin, and taught us a step in the Foxtrot called the corkscrew. I signed up because I thought it had something to do with a glass of wine! Anyway, it was a great lesson for a fairly easy step to do, and add to your repertoire. Thanks Dennis!

Thanks once again to our dependable club supporters, Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for their donation of flower bulb door prizes! Thank you very much you two! We note that the fresh cut flowers decorating each table came from the Adams garden of “Patricia’s Pride” lilies, originating from the DeVroomen bulb business. Very nice, indeed!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone that our next dance is June 24, and that this date may conflict with church activities which utilize our usual space. Please stay tuned for a potential change to this date as we determine the details. We will let everyone know via email if there will be a change. From the floor, Jack DeVroomen suggested that we announce at our dance the upcoming dances at nearby locales which are also noted in this newsletter each month. We will begin doing that.

Congratulations to the winners of the flower bulbs, Hugh Harbin and Michael McDerment; and to Bill Allgood for winning the gift card! Enjoy!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time.  Here it is for this month:

Last Month’s Dance Report

The heat and humidity didn’t get in the way of 37 of you as you set your minds and feet to some terpsichorean delights!  You all made our muse proud!  Great friends and fun, and a little exercise too – what a way to spend a Saturday evening, huh?

Special Thanks! to Cheryl and Bob Carlisle for taking on the hosting chores this month.  When you are greeted by these two you can’t help but have your spirits elevated!  Thanks you two for being such gracious hosts, and for being such good friends!

Special thanks to Debbie, Dennis, Ruthann, Richard, Elaine, Beth Ann, and Vickie for your efforts in preparing a delicious chicken buffet for us to feast on.  I wonder, can a person survive on just mashed potatoes?  Wasn’t that fresh salad just really appetizing?  Wow, you all do such a wonderful job for us every month, and we want you to know we all appreciate it!  Thank you all very much!

Dennis taught a continuation of the Waltz step from last month, and it makes a very smooth and professional looking combo to add to your routine!  Thanks Dennis!

Patricia and Jack DeVroomen earn our sincere plaudits once again for their donation of a box of Caladiums as a door prize!  Thanks you two for being just the greatest of friends to our club!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone that our next dance is August 26th.  He also noted that Rob Rizzuto’s next dance is the first Saturday in August, and the USA dance is the third Saturday.

!!Results of the July 23 Board Meeting!!

Our financial standing has improved nicely as a result of the actions taken in February 2017, and reported in the newsletter of that date.  Therefore, the Board has rescinded the requirement to raise the Annual Membership Dues to $20/person effective 1 January 2018.  The Annual Membership Dues will remain at $10/person for the foreseeable future.
In addition, we recognize that New Year’s Eve in 2017 falls on a Sunday, and that this could be a scheduling problem for many people. Therefore, the Board (using its penultimate wisdom and authority) has declared Saturday, December 30 to be New Year’s Eve for the purposes of our annual New Year’s Eve celebration dinner/dance.  Please note this important change/date on your calendar!

Last Month’s Dance Report

Wow!  You all got us back up close to 50 attending – what a great turn-out and a whole lotta fun!  I know that everybody enjoyed themselves just from the intensity of the glow from all those smiles!  You all are the greatest

Special Thanks! to Linda and Bill Forrest for managing the hosting/check-in table this month.  You know when our good friends Linda and Bill host that the fun is going to start right there!  Thanks you two for being generous with your time and for being such wonderful friends to our club!

Special thanks to Debbie, Dennis, Ruthann, Lou, Elaine, Chris Sabo, Linda, Becky, Roy & Betty, and Vickie for your efforts in preparing a delicious chicken salad and egg salad buffet to sustain us for the evening!  Me oh my!  It was poultry night at the dance and I over ate by the usual amount.  Were those desserts all lo-cal?  I sure hope so!!  Thank you all very much!

Dennis taught a beautiful “hesitation” step in the Waltz which will fit very nicely into your routine as you travel around the dance floor.  He also provided all that danceable music for our evening’s enjoyment.  Thanks Dennis!

Thanks also to Jeannie for providing 2 gift basket door prizes for our enjoyment!  Thank you so very much Jeannie!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone that our next dance is September 30th.  He also reminded everyone of the dates of all our dances through the end of 2017.  Check the calendar in this newsletter!  Dennis also noted that Rob Rizzuto’s next dance is the first Saturday in September, and the USA dance is the third Saturday.  Everyone was reminded that we need volunteer hosts for both October and November.  Can I hear the whoosh as people rush to sign up!!!

Congratulations to Becky Lynch and Michael McDerment for winning the gift baskets, and to Elaine Fullbright for winning the gift card! Enjoy!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time. Here it is for this month: With the current state-of-affairs in our government (no matter where you stand) this seemed appropriate -

Last Month’s Dance Report

Do you remember the line from the movie “Field of Dreams – Build it and they will come?”  Our new motto must be “Play it and they will dance!” Can you believe a rousing 54 people came out to enjoy the music, dancing, food, and camaraderie! We are heading back into record attendance territory folks so let’s just keep doing what we’re doing!  See you there in October!

Special Thanks! to Mariea and Richard Kautter for taking on the hosting duties this month – maybe the magnetism of your friendly personalities is what drew such a large crowd, Huh?  You know how much we appreciate your help, and we surely Thank You both for being such great friends and supporters of the club!

This is a good place to remind you all that we need volunteers to host next month – Please call Chris Hanak or send her an email to help us out.  Contact info is in the column to the left.  Thanks!

Special thanks to Debbie, Dennis, Elaine, Ruthann, Lou, Chris Sabo, Marcelle, Patricia, and Vickie for procuring and preparing a delightful meatball and mashed potato buffet.  That doesn’t mean the meatballs were in the mashed potatoes, but come to think of it, that sounds pretty good!  Throw in those broccoli and fruit salads and you’ve got yourself some real fine vittles folks, and that’s even before you get to all those gooey-good desserts!  Yummy! Thank you all very much!

Dennis taught Part 1 of a magnificent step in the Rumba called the Amalgamation.  When you get Part 2 next dance, you will have a beautiful series of steps which will show off the real expert in your routine!  Don’t miss it next month!  Thanks Dennis!

Thanks also to our dedicated club supporters, Patricia and Jack DeVroomen, for their donation of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  Thank you both very much!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone that our next dance is October 21, followed by November 18, and then December 30.  We realize that there are unfortunate conflicts with the USA Dance because of the Clemson football schedule.  Sometimes it just cannot be avoided.    Dennis also noted that Rob Rizzuto’s next dance is the first Saturday in October, and the USA dance is the third Saturday.

Congratulations to Ruth Whitley, Vicki Ellison, and Ken Williams for winning the flower bulbs; and to Barbara Budreau for winning the gift card! Enjoy!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time. Here it is for this month:

A television can insult your intelligence, but nothing rubs it in like a computer!

We are sometimes caught between a rock and the proverbial hard place when it comes to scheduling the dance. Because of the Clemson football schedule we were “forced” into having the dance on the same competing date with USA Dance, and as a result, the attendance was but 27. But, Oh what a 27 it was! You all are amazing, even in smaller groups! Thank you very much!

Please pay attention to all the news in this newsletter concerning the New Year’s Eve Gala! We don’t want you to miss out on this annual year-end blast!

Very Special Thanks! to Chris Hanak for managing the hosting table this time. Chris works tirelessly as our Treasurer, and additionally stepped in to fill the gap because no one volunteered to take it this month. Well guess what folks? We need volunteers for the upcoming November dance and I know someone out there is up to the task! Just remember, you will get to meet every person attending the dance! Maybe your new Best Friend Forever is standing in that line! Don’t miss out on the fun folks - Call Chris Hanak today, and volunteer!

Special Thanks! to Debbie, Dennis, Elaine, Margaret, Chris Sabo, and Vickie for procuring and preparing another tasty BarBQ buffet. We want each of you to know that we realize how much effort you put into providing the food at each dance, and that we all appreciate it, very much! No-one ever goes away hungry thanks to you all, the best cooks in the Upstate!

Dennis taught Part 2 of a magnificent step in the Rumba called the Amalgamation. I promise that when you do this step you will be the classiest couple on the dance floor! Part 3 next month. Thanks Dennis! And, Thanks to Dennis for providing the danceable music for our evening’s enjoyment!

Thanks also to our dedicated club supporters, Patricia and Jack DeVroomen, for their donation of flower bulbs for our door prizes!  Thank you both very much!

During the break, Dennis reminded everyone that our next dance is November 18, followed by TADA! December 30 New Year’s Eve Gala. Dennis also noted that Rob Rizzuto’s next dance is the first Saturday in November, and the USA dance is the third Saturday.

Congratulations to Vickie Kroeger for winning the gift card! Enjoy!
